IRS and FTB letters

Got a letter from the IRS or the California Franchise Tax Board? We explain what it means and prepare an amended return if one is needed.

About IRS representation: we can speak with the IRS for you only in examinations of returns we prepared and signed. IRS appeals and collection cases are referred to a CPA, enrolled agent, or attorney.

ITIN applications (Form W-7)

An ITIN is a tax ID number for people who need to file or be listed on a U.S. tax return but cannot get a Social Security number. Our Certifying Acceptance Agent (IRS Acceptance Agent Program) prepares your Form W-7 and reviews your documents, so in most cases you do not need to mail your original passport to the IRS.

Who needs an ITIN

Spouses and dependents without a Social Security number, nonresidents with U.S. income, and anyone whose ITIN has expired. An ITIN expires if it is not used on a tax return for three years in a row.

What to bring

A valid passport, or other original identity documents, for each person applying. Dependents may also need proof of U.S. residency. We will tell you exactly what you need before your appointment.

How it works

We prepare the W-7 with your tax return, check your original documents in person at a scheduled appointment, and send the application to the IRS. The IRS usually takes about 7 weeks, or longer during tax season.

A virtual tax office

We work with clients remotely. There is no walk-in office.

Send documents securely

Send your documents through our secure TaxPass upload. We will give you the link and instructions when you become a client.

Meet by phone or Zoom

We meet by phone or Zoom, and in person by appointment when needed.

Review before filing

A second team member reviews every return before it is filed, and we go over the results with you.

Modern, secure tools

We use secure, up-to-date technology to keep your information safe and your work on schedule. A person on our team checks every result.

Please do not email tax documents. Email is not a secure way to send Social Security numbers, bank details, or tax forms. Use TaxPass instead.
